Road Chef Competition Memories

One of the coolest RV hangouts for food this past August was the Family Motor Coach Association's Family Reunion and Motorcoach Showcase in Madison, Wisconsin where together with the FMCA we held our first Road Chef Competition.

 

 

I have to say that the dishes our three finalists prepared were simply outstanding and uniquely regional. 

 

We'll be bringing you this competition on an up-coming episode of Rollin' On TV this season but in the mean time let's meet

 

 

the three finalists and I'll tell you a little about what they prepared. (We'll post all the recipes the week that the show airs.)

 

Lee Ann LeRoy lives right up the road a bit in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Her entry for the contest was the most delicious "home made" corn beef hash dish. When I say home made, I mean from scratch.

 

She presented her dish with what else, home made strawberry preserves and home made croissants. All this was prepared

outside during a rain storm. Wow!

Dianne Wolfe hails from League City, Texas and she prepared a fantastic Portuguese dish of Chicken with Peppers and Olives.

 

When you talk about a dish having multiple layers of flavor, this chicken dish is right up there with the best of them. And what goes well with any Portuguese dish? Crusty bread of course.

Benola Robinson came all the way from Jonesboro, Louisiana. And what would you expect a nice Louisiana gal to fix but outstanding crawfish and corn chowder. By the way, she brought the crawfish all the way from home to prepare this dish.

Her meal came complete with little individual Tobasco sauces and some New Orleans beads.

I'd like to thank our three finalists for all the preparation and hard work that they put into this contest. As I mentioned earlier, it was very hard for our judges to pick a winner being thre was only 2 points difference from 1st to 3rd.

 

Preparing a meal is one thing. Doing it with a camera in your face is another. Great job everyone. 

Our judges got to sample some great dishes during the contest, but they also had a very difficult job in deciding on the winners. It was just so-o-o close!
